How to Dab Shatter

First, you’ll need a dab rig and a torch (or an e-nail).

1. If using a torch, our rule of thumb is this - heat it up till its red hot, then wait one minute. This is usually the amount of time it takes for the nail to reach a nice low temperature. Of course, your environmental conditions and room temperature play a role here, so you may need to experiment with longer or shorter waiting time.

a. If you are using an e-nail, you’ll want to go for a lower temp than usual. Shatter, and CBD shatter especially, tends to have lower percentages of terpenes overall compared to other types of extracts. For this reason you’ll want to preserve as much of that flavor as possible by setting your temps low. Try starting around 475 degrees and work your way up to 550 degrees to find the sweet spot.

2. Have your dab ready to go on your dab tool. Once your nail is at the correct temperature, take your dab and apply it to the inside of the nail as you inhale. If you aren’t using any fancy terp pearls and your temperature is on the lower end of the spectrum, it can help to swirl your dab around the nail using your dab tool to ensure even and complete vaporization.

3. This is where carb caps can come in handy, but if you are just starting out you may not have one and that’s fine. But, if you do, drop your carb cap over your nail so you can get the most out of your shatter. Spinning the carb cap around in the nail while you inhale will allow for a more thorough vaporization and covering the hole in your carb cap will allow you to really milk your shatter for all it’s got!
